Fighting Flu Season
Share
It is the time of year when everyone knows someone who has the flu. From the news reports, the flu is nasty this year. On the rare occasions I leave my little bubble here on the farm, people are either coughing and sneezing or sharing stories of someone they know who is terribly ill. I don't go out a lot. I take immune-suppressing medicine, so I am more cautious than the average bear about germs and illness. I keep hand sanitizer in my car and use it after every interaction with the public. However, nothing beats a good, old-fashioned hand washing!
Today, my message is to take precautions to avoid getting sick and to wash your hands more frequently than usual. There genuinely isn't any better defense against germs than washing your hands well, with warm water and soap. Of course, wash your hands after using the restroom and before eating. However, especially this time of year, never pass up the opportunity to wash your hands when you are out in public. Keep your hands away from your face. After you've washed your hands, use a paper towel or your shirt sleeve to open a door. Don't toss your belongings around on public surfaces as an extra measure. Those phones, car keys, and purses are germ carriers, too. Last but most importantly, if you feel like you are getting sick or you have symptoms, stay home, rest, and don't spread it around. You aren't anyone's hero showing up for work when you aren't feeling well. It's just simple common sense.
Every week we have a different soap, or this week a collection of soaps, on special for 25% off. I gently encourage you to take advantage of the savings and stay healthy. It's a funky time of year, dear reader. Be smart about it. Care for yourself with rest, liquids, and a gentle hand if you do become ill. Stock up on good soap and moisturizer to keep your hands from drying out and cracking from frequent washing. Just take care, dear reader. I want to see you happy and healthy in the spring.
On this cold January day, stay safe, be smart, and for real, wash those hands.
