Flashlight Sunflower Maze

Flashlight Sunflower Maze

Welcome to Thursday, dear reader. We are preparing for our upcoming sunflower maze here on the farm. The sunflowers are beginning to open here and there. This week, we have been installing our stylized photo vignettes. Along with installing the props, we are adding lighting elements to create a unique experience in the maze. On Friday and Saturday evenings, we are offering a flashlight maze from approximately 7:30 to 10:00. It's a unique way to explore the maze, have fun, and enjoy nature.

I am thinking about it like Christmas lights in the sunflowers. All the pretty elements take on a different look at night, with just decorative lights, glow sticks, and flashlights for exploring the maze. I anticipate that a younger crowd will come out to enjoy this experience, but it is open to all. I think walking around the sunflowers after dark is a cool idea. I wouldn't want to do it alone, but with friends it's fun.

This year is about getting our feet under us, figuring out what people find interesting, getting the word out about what we are doing, and having fun along the way. The next few months will transition between sunflower mazes, fall cornfield mazes, and a Halloween corn maze with a haunted option. It's busy; we have big ideas and a lot to learn. So far, it's been pretty stress-filled, trying to manage our Shaker Woods Festival booth, the mazes, and stay on top of everything in the soap studio. Thankfully, all the animals are safe and healthy this year. We're learning a lot, with a long way to go.

I hope that some of you will join us for one or all of our mazes. We are working hard to create a unique, fun, family-friendly, safe, and healthy experience for everyone. I'm very excited for August 29th. The 29th will be our farmer's market on the farm, the grand opening of the sunflower maze, and the flashlight maze. We will have on-site photographers, food vendors, and custom sunflower-themed soap and moisturizer available. We can't wait. I hope you are excited too.

On this Thursday in August, stay safe, be smart, make plans to join us in the sunflowers, see us this final weekend of the Shaker Woods Festival, and keep washing your hands.
