Heartthrob

Our new billy goat, Sebastian, is the new heartthrob on the farm. All the ladies love him, even the grannies, and all the boys want to hang out with him. Sebastian is a sweet, handsome boy, and he is definitely getting the attention. This weekend, The Bibbed Wonder moved and refreshed the tarps on the little hut across the driveway. Sebastian is happily out of quarantine and living his best life with five or six ladies who are quite smitten with him. The boy is certainly living his best life.
Eric's ingenious hut creation is warm and cozy when it is not filled with goats, but when the goats are inside, it is near sixty-five degrees. Sebastian and the girls don't seem to mind being away from the herd or the barn. There is no usual woeful bellering for their beloved barn now that the hut is near the barn and Sebastian is there. The girls and Sebastian hang out in the pasture from dawn to dusk. Once they enjoy their dinner, they go into their little hut and snuggle in for the night. It is quite a cozy scene.
I am relieved that Sebastian is integrating into the herd so well. There has not been any drama, roughness, or the usual hard-hitting to establish the pecking order. Sebastian seems to be a good fit with the herd in general. Our wethers like him and seem to know he is now the leader. Lester, who is a pushy pain in the a**, has accepted Sebastian with very little conflict or drama. Les seems to be happy he is here and has someone to pal around with who isn't moody and filled with estrogen.
Even my dear old girl, Red, has taken a shine to Sebastian. My poor, sweet retired nanny went over to the stall while Sebastian was in quarantine and introduced herself. She carefully placed her front feet on the step to the stall, stretched her little neck as far as it would reach, and touched noses with Sebastian. All the while, her little red tail was wagging in friendly interest. In my head, read has a smoker's voice and a strong New York accent. I imagined her saying to Sebastian, "Sweet Boy, if I were a few years younger, OY, the things I'd do to you! MMM, MMM, MMM!" My girl, Red, is the most adorable, endearing, gentle lady you will meet. I love her so.
As my friend Jane would say, it is all very kum-by-yah here on the farm. Sebastian is settling in, the girls are loving him, he loves the attention, and all is well. On this chilly, November day, stay safe, be smart, embrace when things go well, and keep washing your hands.
