Making Friends

As much as I say I am an introvert and socially awkward, all of which are very true, I do tend to make connections with people wherever we go. Our little getaway to Berkeley Springs was no different. On our first day at the springs, I spent the afternoon talking with a lovely woman named Arlene from Manhattan. I found Arlene's life absolutely fascinating, and she showed a genuine appreciation for our lifestyle. I walked away thinking what a wonderful opportunity I had to meet such a lovely person, and how interesting it is to meet people from all walks of life.

On our second day, we made friends with a baby, McKinley, who will soon turn two. McKinley took an instant liking to me, and I took on my mother-hen attitude, fussing over a baby near water. McKinley's mom and sister spent the afternoon with us as we soaked in the springs. They were a local family from a large farming family in Berkeley Springs. Their family owns Glascocks Produce, which is a large and popular farm store in the area.

While browsing the adorable boutiques, we connected with Lynnette Everett, who owns the lovely Lavender Bliss Boutique in Berkeley Springs. Sometimes you just connect with individuals with little effort. Lynnette was one of those people for me. In the near future, The Smiling Goat might be available in the Berkeley Springs area. I will keep you posted.

On our final day, Eric and I sat at the springs with our feet in the water, and we chatted with a lovely woman from a few towns over. It was simply a chance discussion, but a very enjoyable conversation. Eric laughed and told me I make friends everywhere I go. I'm not sure that is true, but I enjoy the interactions I have with people. The funny thing is, I am never the one to initiate a conversation. People approach me, and we just seem to hit it off. I'm grateful for the positive interactions I have with people. It helps me to remind me that there are good people everywhere.

On this lovely summer day, stay safe, be smart, stay open, make friends wherever you go, and keep washing your hands.

I once asked a departed friend why she attended church business meetings, and she said because it was motivating. “Everyone needs a little time away.”goes the song. I think that’s what people do to make life interesting, connect.
I met a nice lady yesterday at a thrift store yesterday. I tried to guess what occupation was before retirement. Was she a ballerina before she retired?
She had a small grey poodle in her cart that never moved. She was well kept and friendly. She talked about her little dog. He was one and a half pounds when she found him on the road to her house . He was matted and starving. Now he weighed five pounds and was trained in school.
The poodle sat on his blanket and never moved the whole time. She said she had fourteen cats staying with her and one was due to have kittens. . She knew another lady who had 48 cats. She was connected to a humane society. She lived out in the county and these animals were coming to her door. She said several times,“How could people be so cruel.”
She was a foreman in a factory.
