Feeling Like a Turtle

I feel like a turtle. As I sit and watch the news, I am hopeful that we will be back to some semblance of normal by this summer. The numbers of those newly infected with the virus in our area are very low, and the number of those who are vaccinated is increasing weekly. Like a turtle, I am slowly peeking outside of my safe shell here on the farm. The Bibbed Wonder and I have decided to allow The Bean to pick up with her Tae Kwon Do classes again. We are even cautiously contemplating having our open house in May. Although I have received no official notice, I am planning a refresh of my stand for the farmer's market if we are once again permitted to decorate. These are all baby steps for us, but it feels good to plan and look to the future cautiously.

I am a bit conflicted about this virus thing. On the one hand, I watch the news and see Las Vegas opening up again. I also see revelers in Miami, partying in the streets, and the flying industry is showing increases in people flying. However, I also see on the news that parts of Europe have shut down, the UK isn't permitting travel outside of the country, and these new variants are growing in number and seem more dangerous. It all just seems conflicted and confusing.

I try to be logical and approach the situation with care, logic, and facts. However, the information that is presented makes it difficult to know what is safe and right. I believe we will keep doing what we have been doing all along, and that is to go with what feels right for us. I believe this is the only thing any of us can do. On my few trips to the grocery store, I have noted that there are now people who are comfortable not wearing a mask. I have friends who are planning trips, and I have friends who are still staying home. I believe each is correct because they are doing what feels right for them.

As we continue to navigate these uncharted waters, we have to give everyone the space they need to feel comfortable. For some of us, that is still six feet apart, with hand sanitizer and a face diaper...that term makes me giggle. For others, it is trying to get back to pre-pandemic life. Whatever your choice, be safe, be smart, be understanding, and wash your hands. Have a wonderful weekend, dear reader.
