Tuesday Night Spotlight: Orange Sandalwood

I feel like my orange sandalwood soap is frequently overlooked and unappreciated. The scent of orange sandalwood is soft, citrus and woodsy. It is one of my few soaps I believe is gender neutral in scent. It's not too masculine but plays along the border of masculine and it's just soft enough to be feminine. It is truly one of my favorite scents.

Orange Sandalwood was created very early on in my soaping career. It is one of my first essential oil blends that has withstood the scrutiny of my ever changing scent palate. As I look back over my "idea book," I have to smile at how simple my first soaps were. I remember I felt like I was master of the universe every time I created a new concoction and it worked out okay. There were quite a few that did not turn out okay but I have always been one to learn by my mistakes. I now have a huge interest in scent blending and am looking into various online aromatherapy courses. I think I have huge nostrils and I figure I may as well turn them into a positive. There is always a silver lining!

When I first began making soap, I was all about the healthful benefits of not only the soap ingredients but also the essential oil benefits. Citrus scents are renowned for not being able to "stick" or hold up through the high temperatures of the saponification process. I have tried a variety of citrus scents over the years and none of them have the staying power that the combination of orange and sandalwood have.

The benefits of orange essential oil for the skin are that it is believed to promote clarity, radiance, and smoothness. It is therefore considered beneficial for those with troubled skin.

Sandalwood is very mild but still has a powerful effect on the skin. Due to its antiseptic properties it is believed to prevent acne and rashes, heals itching and inflammation, cools and soothes sunburns, gently exfoliates, helps fade scars, moisturizes and tones the skin with mild astringent action.

I've chosen to combine the essential oils with activated bamboo charcoal which also are believed to have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. Not only is this a lovely scented bar it is a powerhouse of goodness for the skin.

I would recommend this soap first and foremost for it's soft, gently earthy and mildly citrus scent. The benefits of the goat's milk, activated charcoal, and essential oils create a powerful blend of goodness for the skin.

**However, please remember that just because it is natural doesn't mean you can't have a reaction. Always spot test first, especially if you are sensitive. I don't consider my skin overly sensitive but I react to lemongrass essential oil. I adore the uplifting smell of lemongrass but my skin feels like its on fire if I come into contact with it.
